VMware release the draft of vSphere 4.0 Hardening Guide

目前还是草稿阶段，不是正式版。

相比 VI3 的 Hardening Guide 具有如下亮点：

* 结构上更清晰明了 – 使用了标准的文档格式，在文档结构上，模板定义上以及参考文档引用方面都相比 VI3 的对应部分更正式。
* 推荐设置方面选择更多 – 这份文档将所有的操作指引划分为三个安全等级，而不是为所有的场景给出一个笼统的推荐。这样做的好处是管理员可以有更多的选择，更好的根据自身环境的需求做出更好的配置。

需要指出的是，这个 Hardening Guide 有超过 100 个操作指引，主要按照如下几个部分进行划分：

* Introduction
* Virtual Machines
* Host
* vNetwork
* vCenter
* Console OS (for ESX)

From Hany Michael’s blog, we see lots of books that published in 2009 entitled with vSphere. Of all the 7 books I only get 2 of them at present, I hope I can possess them all in the near future, especially the book vSphere 4.0 Quick Start Guide. (哪位好心人买这本书送给我吧！^_^)

It’s has been universally acknowledged that managing how to share CPU, memory, storage and network resources is the key to avoiding performance problems in any virtualization environment.

This paper cover some lessons learned in years of experience managing capacity resources in a VMware environment and how those same techniques can be applied to a Hyper-V environment. “Since many of you are already familiar with VMware, we’ll be comparing Hyper-V to VMware. We’ll cover how to manage resources (CPU, memory storage and disk I/O) to obtain the maximum safe VM density, how to avoid performance bottlenecks, and how to compute how much capacity there is to add virtual machines for each host and cluster.”

ZFS Best Practices Guide （ZFS 最佳实践指南）

FreeBSD 7.0 已经可以支持 ZFS 文件系统了，不过还处于测试阶段，不推荐用于生产环境。
